Dallas Heritage Village Description
A collection of historic structures from around Dallas — from pioneer cabins to luxurious mansions and more. Interpreters are onhand daily to help transport kids back in time, to the days when a family of eight lived in the tiny Craig House; when the newspaper was laid out letter-by-letter; and school took place in one room. Kids will either grimace or be fascinated by the flowers and other designs intricately woven from human hair on display in the Millermore House; "insanity," proclaimed one 11-year old girl about the collection.
Kid Tips
Babies: Best to carry baby in a Bjorn; while strolling the grounds in a sturdy stroller is an option, the historic buildings are not stroller-friendly.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Be sure to find the padock where Nip and Tuck — the resident Mammoth Jack donkeys — live; the pair loves visitors. The huge donkeys also pull the carriage for rides around the village ($1 per ride).
School-Age Kids: While the structures are historic, there are plenty of opportunities to play, from dressing up in period clothing to investigating the teepee to sitting in the vintage school desks.
Pre-Teens & Teens: If exploring on your own, be sure older kids stop in the Sullivan House to see what was then a modern marvel — the first indoor bathroom in Dallas.
