Zilker Metropolitan Park Description
Austin's 351-acre park is a favorite among little kids, a place where the much-loved miniature train ride is a local rite of passage. Tours on the adorable and aptly named Zilker Zephyr (512-478-8286) make 25-minute loops around the park. It's a perfect sunny-day diversion and a great way to get the lay of the land, and at $1.75 per kid, an oft-repeated adventure. Self-motoring visitors on the park's Bike and Hike trail can enjoy the 10-mile stretch along the lake (recently renamed in honor of Lady Bird Johnson) on all manner of wheels -- trike, bike, and stroller -- or on foot.
