Belle Meade Plantation Description
Touring this gorgeous antebellum plantation will thrill teens who are fans of "Gone With the Wind" or who have studied the Civil War. The daily lives of the Harding family, including President William Harding, are brought vividly to life by costumed guides. But the hour-long tour will bore kids younger than 8, who won't enjoy being shushed and told not to touch or sit on the antique furnishings.

Kid Tips
Babies: Fairly stroller-friendly, particularly if they'll sleep, but too hush-hush to risk a grumpy or crying baby.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Too many breakables and rules for little ones; you might want to split up and have one parent take little ones to the garden.
School-Age Kids: Remind kids to use their "indoor voices" before taking the tour.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The stables, which provide a fascinating introduction to thoroughbred breeding and racing, will be a hit with horse-crazed pre-teens.
Planning Notes
- Be prompt. The last tour leaves at 4 p.m. on the dot, so don't arrive later than that or you'll miss out. And on Sundays, hours are only 11-5.
