Grand Ole Opry Description
Best known as the longest-running radio show in America, and a country music staple since 1925, today the Grand Old Opry is an entire entertainment complex dedicated to the traditions of country music. Of course the best way to see the Opry is to take in a show: previous performers are the who's-who of country music. Most meaningful to the kids are today's rising stars, many of them American Idol alums like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Pickler, but the variety show atmosphere of the live radio show is really fun, too.

Toddlers & Pre-K: If possible, try the shorter, earlier shows on weekend nights.
School-Age Kids: Try a country show, preferably with a younger artist like Carrie Underwood or one with dancing, like the Opry Square Dancers.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids this age will get a kick out of seeing where today's top country stars got their start.
Planning Notes
- Buy tickets in advance. There are several shows a night at the various theaters, but if you wish to see a big name performer on a weekend night, it's a good idea to purchase tickets before your trip.
- Take a backstage tour. It's a must if you're in town during the week, when they're offered.
