Stax Museum of American Soul Music/Soulsville, USA Description
Isaac. Aretha. Ike & Tina. The first names are all that's needed for the royalty of soul music; all got their start in this tiny Memphis recoding studio. Soul comes from the heart and started in the churches, where gospel music gave birth to the uniquely American sound. Tweens and teens will be the most impressed when they make the connection between Memphis and their favorite music.

Kid Tips
Babies: Stroll away. There's plenty of room to navigate, with the exception of the gift shop.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Unless they're musically inclined, they may be bored. One thing they'll love: seeing the coolest car ever (which belonged to Isaac Hayes).
School-Age Kids: They'll be more interested than you'd think. Be sure to share your musical memories with them, and point out that all those cover songs they hear on the radio were first recorded here.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Must take home a Stax shirt, the ultimate hipster attire.
Planning Notes
- It's an A/V thing. Lots of audio, plenty of visuals; make the kids count the gold records while you enjoy the exhibits.
- Food-free. There's no food on site, or any dining options nearby, so plan accordingly.
