Tennessee Aquarium Description
Twin buildings on the Tennessee River contain two diverse ecosystems -- the ocean and a river. Each journey begins at the top of each building; children press their noses up to the glass at every level of the easy-to-navigate walkway, which brings them deeper into the respective ecosystem. Excited shouts of "do you see that!?" ring out as penguins, snakes, giant catfish, and other creatures are spotted. The seahorse exhibit is an amazing array of the tiny fluttering creatures, and a perennial favorite with the preschool and school-aged sets.
Kid Tips
Babies: Easy to explore with a stroller. Wide, smooth walkways through the main tanks and exhibits add up to a pleasant experience with baby.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Spend extra time with the seahorses, jellyfish, and butterflies.
School-Age Kids: Touch tanks and feeding times are important for the school set, as is the shark tank in the ocean building.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Catch the behind-the-scenes tour (an extra cost) for a VIP look at what goes on. Be sure to reserve in advance.
Planning Notes
- Go early. The aquarium is the most popular attraction downtown, so be sure to get there early to avoid long lines.
- Bring snacks. There's no food service at the aquarium, although there are plenty of restaurants just outside its doors.
