Patriots Point Description
For kids fascinated by the military, Patriots Point is a must-see destination. The maritime museum includes four ships, including the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, which played an important role in World War II. What gets kids' attention right away is the sheer scale of the ship, big enough to have housed 3,500 sailors. Another spot gets stomachs rumbling: the bakery, which displays a recipe for 10,000 chocolate chip cookies. And, of course, taking the wheel of such a massive ship is a big thrill. On the flip side, there's the Clamagore, a submarine. Kids will be amazed at how sailors lived in such cramped quarters.
Kid Tips
Babies: You can bring a stroller, but a backpack or frontpack will give you more flexibility.
Planning Notes
- Never too crowded. Summer is the busiest time, but even then the crowds aren't too bad, because they spread out over the four ships.
- Beat the heat. In hot months, visit in the morning.
