Charles Towne Landing Historic Site Description
This site is billed as the "birthplace of South Carolina" because it was here that English settlers landed in 1670 and established the Carolina colony. Today you can experience a taste of what life was like through the Settlers' Life Area, where you can see replica buildings and craft demonstrations like candle-making and woodworking. The major draw for kids will be the interpretive center's interactive exhibits and "Animal Forest," which features animals that the colonists might have encountered.
Kid Tips
Pre-Teens & Teens: Charles Towne Landing is also a working archaeological site, so teens interested in this field will probably want to check out the digs.
