Folly Beach Description
There are several great beaches in the Charleston vicinity, but Folly Beach, easy to get to and fun for kids, is the best choice for families. At the west end is Folly Beach County Park, which offers all the amenities a family needs: wide-open spaces, lifeguards, picnic tables, dressing rooms, outside showers, chairs, and a boardwalk. Bring your own picnic or buy lunch at the snack bar.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Pick up some beach toys from one of the local shops and your preschooler will be all set.
School-Age Kids: Young animal lovers, especially those who have visited the South Carolina Aquarium, will enjoy learning about Folly Beach's sea turtles (http://www.follyturtles.com/). Look for turtle tracks in the sand.
Pre-Teens & Teens: If you have an intrepid surfer, check out www.follywaves.com for all the details on finding the best waves. The site includes a surf break map.
Planning Notes
- Crowd avoidance. The early bird gets the worm. Or, in this case, the parking space.
- Lifeguards work seasonally. Check the Website.
