Carnegie Science Center Description
Got a curious kid? Don't skip this museum. Here kids launch rockets, check out creepy insects, and play musical instruments made of PVC, learning all the while. The most active activities are in Sports Works (across the parking lot in the blue building) where kids learn about the physics of sports while timing fastballs, trying to sink a basketball wearing vision distorting goggles, studying angles by shooting pool, and trying to score against a virtual hockey goalie. Also fun is exploring the USS Requin Submarine, which is in the river right outside the main museum.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Don't miss the miniature railroad. Not only is it a must for little train fans (it's at eye level for them) but it's a great way to learn about western Pennsylvania, past and present, because it features landmarks like the inclines and Forbes Field.
School-Age Kids: Kids love the Kitchen Theater, where they learn the science behind foods by watching a live (often dramatic and fiery) cooking demonstration.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The IMAX theater shows films and music laser shows at night. Check the website for the schedule.
Planning Notes
- Take a walk. The museum is on the river, so plan on enjoying a river walk afterwards.
- Come again. Save your museum receipt. If you return within two months you'll get 50 percent off the price of tickets.
- Unexpected Steeler closings. If you're traveling during football season, note that the center closes early on some Sundays and for the whole day on others. Check the Web site for the schedule.
