Carnegie Museum of Art and Carnegie Museum of Natural History Description

These two world-class museums share the same building, and one ticket provides entry to both. Kids are entranced by the Hall of Architecture in the Museum of Art, which is filled with towering reproductions of majestic structures from ancient Greece, Rome, and medieval times. Scavenger hunts help kids learn about the exhibits. For most kids, the highlight of the Museum of Natural History is the amazing dinosaur room, starring a massive, five-ton T-Rex, although the gem room is spectacular as well.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Don't miss the Discovery Room on the lowest floor, which is filled with hands-on activities like primate matching games and fossil puzzles. Also, every visitor gets a free temporary tattoo.

School-Age Kids: Budding paleontologists will love wearing goggles and chipping away rock while searching for fossil casts in the Bonehunter's Quarry.

Planning Notes

    • Burn energy. Take rambunctious kids to the Sculpture Court out back or the fountain in front of the museum to stretch legs.
    • Kid-friendly food. Just a block away from the museum is Lulu's Noodles, along with many chain restaurants. Take a lunch break and then go back to the museums for more explorations.
    • Weekend fun. Free family activities are offered every weekend, like painting or making artwork out of string and cardboard. Check the websites for details.
