Philadelphia Insectarium Description
This insect museum (read "bug zoo") is definitely on the creepy crawly side. Kids can play on a man-made spider web, watch a working beehive (safely behind glass), check out the glow-in-the-dark scorpions, even hold and touch a few bugs (with help from a tour guide). Kids will love the interactive games, puzzles, and microscopes. Cockroach Kitchen will gross out the grown-ups, and the high-energy and sometimes zany tour guides just add to the fun. Don't forget to pick up a candied insect lollipop at the gift shop!
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Small kids love crawling around the bungee-cord spider web. Mounted exhibits don't move, so it's easy to see and learn about various types of bugs without feeling nervous.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age adore the petting corner, where they can safely handle different bugs. For the more squeamish, the working beehive is mesmerizing.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Send teens straight to Cockroach Kitchen, where they will be happily disgusted.
Planning Notes
- Go between mealtimes. The Insectarium is a small building with no café.
