Please Touch Museum Description

This pint-size museum appeals to children 7 and younger with interactive and hands-on (of course!) exploration and activities. Kids can slide down the rabbit hole to check out the world of Alice in Wonderland, take the wheel of a real bus, or venture into the world of Maurice Sendak. A perennial kid favorite is the Supermarket, where young shoppers fill their shopping carts, restock shelves, and play cashier for other customers. Don't forget to see a show or get artsy in Kids Creations.

Kid Tips

Babies: The Story Garden is a quiet place where the youngest children can catch some down-time, hear a story, or play with table-top activities.

Toddlers & Pre-K: "Barnyard Babies" is specially designed for children 3 and younger, where they can drive a tractor, dress a scarecrow, feed the chickens, or play in a pretend vegetable garden.

School-Age Kids: Children up to age 7 enjoy the performances, with music, movement, folklore, and puppetry. Shows are short and always include the kids who are watching.

Planning Notes

  • Go in the afternoon or on a fair-weather day. The museum tends to be busy on rainy days and in the mornings, when school groups visit. (No groups are scheduled on Mondays, though.)
  • Check the website for show times. Kid-friendly performances (loads of fun and only 20 minutes long) are usually scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with craft projects at 10 a.m. and noon. Free with admission.
  • Strollers are not allowed in the main gallery. Ample stroller parking is available on the main floor, and frontpack carriers are available free of charge.
  • Bring lunch or plan to go out. The museum does not have a café or restaurant, but it's within easy walking distance of several family-friendly options. If you brown-bag it, you can eat in "Recycled City," where vending machines are stocked with beverages and light snacks.
