Strasburg Rail Road Description
It's almost impossible not to get excited when you hear the steam train's booming horn as it closes in on the station. Larger than life, the coal-fueled steam engine is lovingly restored. Children will delight in riding the rails to Paradise (Pennsylvania, that is) while listening to the conductor note points of interest, such as the Amish farms and the Red Caboose Motel (which features real train cars as sleeping rooms). At the end of the route, your kids will love shouting and cheering for the engineers who will hook up an engine to the "back" of the train and take it on its 20-minute ride to the station.

Kid Tips
Babies: The soothing sound of the train on the tracks may lull babies to sleep.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Windows can be opened, and are just the right height to climb up to (and through!). Remind little ones to keep their hands in the car.
School-Age Kids: This is the perfect age to enjoy a ride on the rails.
Planning Notes
- Snacks are allowed. Surprisingly, you can eat and drink while sitting in the blue velvet seats. The train yard has both a snack bar and a candy shop to satisfy hunger for sandwiches or sweets.
- Choose your seat wisely. Riding in the train's first-class front section or the open-air car near the back cost extra.
- Check events. The railroad gets busy during certain big events, such as visits from Thomas the Tank Engine and Santa's Paradise Express.
- A modern convenience. Tickets can be purchased online.

Gotta love the Railroad

What we loved:
Nice, family orientated, low key!
What we didn't love:
Tickets for Thomas & Friends must be booked through and outside co.
This happens to be our 4 year olds favorite place. He is a train nut! It is a family friendly atmosphere! We have taken the ride on all of the different cars. The Presidential car is a very nice ride, especially if you can get the seat at the very rear of the car. On the way back you are right behind the engine. They have let my little guy stand in the doorway (with his father right behind him) and "help" to couple the train. He has also held the flags for our journey back.
There are a lot of other local attrations near as well, the Train Museum, The Little Caboose Motel, etc. Dutch Wonderland, Christmas Land, and the Amish Farm are all within 15-20 minutes.
Great for a weekend getaway for adults as well. Read More
