Amish Farm and House Description
Yes, it's right off the highway behind Target, but don't pass by this delightful and authentic stop in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Complete with a covered bridge and deeded by William Penn, the farm is almost exactly like it was in 1805, the year it was built. A one-room school house on the property gives a glimpse of how many Amish children are schooled to this day. Kids will love the super-cool 1805 Conestoga wagon, animals -- including horses, pigs, cows and goats -- and lots of space to run around.
Kid Tips
Babies: Another stroller-friendly destination, although some buildings require leaving the wheels outdoors.
Toddlers & Pre-K: There are goats to pet and a playground to be conquered. Life is good on the Amish Farm.
School-Age Kids: Seeing innovative Amish solutions to everything from washing clothes to getting water into the house will fascinate this age group -- and make them re-think complaining about their chores.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Blacksmithing exhibitions, buggy rides, and an amusing exhibit about how towns like Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse got their names should keep teens sufficiently interested.
Planning Notes
- Take a ride. Buggy rides are available around the 15-acre farm. If going on-road in a horse-drawn carriage makes you nervous, this is a good alternative.
- Check out the covered bridge. The farm has its own historic covered bridge.
- Picnic area available. The farm has done a good job of making the area convenient for families, with a small playground and picnic benches.
- Call ahead for special exhibitions. The farm has special events throughout the year and hosts exhibitions by blacksmiths, wood carvers, and others who demonstrate authentic Amish arts and crafts. Call ahead or check the Website for details.

What we loved:
Lots to learn.
What we didn't love:
Too much sitting still.
We loved this spot when we went with one toddler and two school-aged children. Although the presentation of the house and school room was a little long for children who dont sit still, the farm was very fun and we all learned a lot about Amish life. Wed go back for sure! Read More

What we loved:
Seeing a totally different way of life that seems 100s of years old -- but people are living this way TODAY!
Id heard about the Amish and seen photos but its quite amazing to see that indeed, their simple, old-fashioned way of life is still intact. Kids are amazed too - and they get a chance to ride a buggy the driver sometimes lets kids take the reigns and sit on the horse, sample some Amish fare, and meet some people very different from themselves. I think we all took away some appreciation for how good we have it! Little kids love all the animals around -- horses, geese, etc. Read More
