Tapiola Park Description
A few years ago a local mom (of seven!) named Wendy Berezay realized what Astoria needed: a playground with the town's most important landmarks represented in miniature. With the help of other tireless parents, Tapiola Park came into being. The recent completion of the park is visible in the newness of the surfaces, the latest generation of the recycled plastic "wood," and the absence of grafitti. The play-structure city, with its mini Flavel House and Fort Clatsop, appeals to a wide range of ages (grown-ups too!).
Kid Tips
Babies: Take advantage of the nice sandbox for ages five and under only. Well-placed benches make it easy to relax while supervising older kids.
Toddlers & Pre-K: A fenced area with a gated entrance designed for kids ages 2 to 5 provides a welcome haven for little ones.
School-Age Kids: The park has ample opportunities for climbing and well-gauged balance challenges (keep off the ground!).
Pre-Teens & Teens: Right next door is a nice skate park where teens can zoom on skateboards, bikes, and scooters (helmets mandatory).
Planning Notes
- Bring a picnic. Covered picnic tables provide a shady place to eat al fresco.
- Bring your wheels. Enjoy biking, skating, and scooter riding at the skate park next door.
- Bring a baseball. There's a diamond at the foot of the hill.
