Cleveland Museum of Art Description
Although it's currently undergoing a major overhaul and expansion (due to be completed in 2012), the galleries that are open in this can't-miss Cleveland attraction offer much to delight the artistically minded younger set (the hosts at the information counter are quick to point out the collections that will be of most interest). School-age boys will like the medieval room with its life-size pieces of armor, jousting weapons, and mounted knight; girls with a penchant for high fashion will love the brightly painted period portraits throughout.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The art here is close enough to touch, protected in many areas only by low ropes surrounding each piece. If the no-touching rule will be difficult to enforce, save this museum for the grade-school years.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids with a keen interest in art will love it, but skip this museum if your older children would rather eat broccoli than examine artwork.
Planning Notes
- Sticker fun. Make the visit more engaging by asking for a scavenger hunt sticker book at the information counter.
- Green space galore. If you need a break but aren't quite ready to call it a day, step outside the museum's front door and into the center of University Circle, where you'll find plenty of lawn space (and occasionally some entertainment) that's perfect for a picnic or a game of Frisbee.
