Roanoke Island Festival Park Description
If you lament that today's pace of life is too hectic, visit Roanoke Island Festival Park, where your kids will get a taste of the simpler times before iPods and cell phones (or even indoor plumbing, for that matter). Climb aboard a replica of the Elizabeth II and listen to costumed 16th-century sailors spin fantastic yarns about their perilous voyages. Back on land, soldiers regale kids with battle stories. Kids love trying on period armor and learning crafts like shoemaking and carpentry. At the Roanoke Adventure Museum, they'll further experience the past by dressing up in Elizabethan costume, going inside a Civil War tent, and "shopping" in a replica of a 1900's general store.
