The Lost Colony Show Description
Hundreds of years before "Cold Case Files" and "Unsolved Mysteries" there was the mystery of the Lost Colony. Roanoke Island, the first English settlement in the New World, vanished without a trace -- except for the world "Croatan" carved on a tree. Kids old enough to sit through the two-hour show will be captivated by this intriguing retelling of the mystery, which comes to life through drama, period costumes, and music. One of the nicest things about the production is the peaceful setting, in the open air under the stars.

Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: The story should hold the interest of children 8 and up. They'll enjoy it more if they've learned a little bit about it first. A good children's book on the topic is "Roanoke: The Mystery of the Lost Colony" by Lee Miller.
Planning Notes
- Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes can be brutal. One child's theory about the Lost Colony is that the mosquitoes carried the people away.
- Bring towels if it looks like rain. If it does the production will be delayed, but will start after the rain stops (showers usually pass quickly here). Towels will come in very handy if you want dry seats.
- Keep warm. It gets chilly at night, even in the summer, so bring a light sweater.
- Extra entertainment. If you arrive early you can listen to the Lost Colony Players sing outside the entrance.
- Dine nearby. Have dinner before the show at one of the restaurants on the Manteo waterfront.
