Jockey's Ridge State Park Description
Jockey's Ridge is a marvel. The 80-foot-tall sand dunes, the tallest in the eastern United States, make kids feel like they're in a surreal desert. They find their size amazing, and what does a kid do with such a big hill of sand? Why roll down it, of course! Kids will wear themselves out climbing up the dune and rolling down. As if that weren't enough, Kitty Hawk Kites offers kites and hang gliding lessons on the dunes to people of all ages. They even have specially designed lessons for kids as young as three.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The same winds that enabled the Wright Brothers to become the world's first successful aviators make the park one of the best places in the world to fly kites.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Try hang gliding lessons. It's easy to learn and don't worry if kids (or you) have a fear of heights -- you glide just a few feet above the dunes.
