Wright Brothers National Memorial Description
What kid doesn't want to fly? The story of the Wright Brothers is one history lesson that kids don't have to be forced to learn -- they'll immerse themselves in the amazing story of the first powered flight. In the visitor's center, an interpreter tells the story in front of a full-sized replica of the first plane (which can actually fly). Even young children enjoy this talk -- the interpreter shows the simple flying toy that ignited the brothers' interest in flight. Kids never tire of running up (and especially down) big Kill Devil Hill, where the Wright Brothers began their glider flights.

Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Along with Jockey's Ridge State Park, Big Kill Devil Hill is another incredible place to fly a kite.
Planning Notes
- Shop. Kids who are into planes will find the gift shop irresistible. Model kits, toy planes, kites, and more are serious temptations.
- Fly your plane. Ask at the front desk, or call in advance, about programs like "Fun in Flight," in which adults and kids make their own paper gliders to try out.
