Looking Glass Falls Description
If you drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and US 276, you'll have no doubt why Transylvania County is known as the "Land of Waterfalls." One of the most popular to visit is Looking Glass Falls, both because of its beauty and because of its easy accessibility. You can see it from the road; just pull all the way off before getting out of the car. Walk down the steps to the creek that this 60-foot waterfall empties into and you'll have some great photo ops. Kids love wading in the water and climbing on the rocks.
Kid Tips
Babies: You'll have to walk down steps, so leave the stroller in the car. Or just enjoy the waterfall from the roadside viewing area.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Everyone loves a waterfall. Perhaps bring a change of clothes, because running water is a toddler-magnet.
School-Age Kids: Go ahead. Let them get wet.
Pre-Teens & Teens: This is a great spot for a budding photographer. If you have a camera that has adjustable settings, it's fun to take pictures of waterfalls with different shutter speeds and see the effects.
Planning Notes
- Crowd tips. Weekends can be busy. But don't let that it stop you from pulling over. It's worth it.
