Babies: A lightweight stroller is the best bet. The grounds and house require a lot of walking. Although there is an elevator in the house, you'll still have to maneuver some steps.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Even if your toddler or preschooler has boundless energy, you might want to bring a lightweight stroller for this excursion. A favorite of this age group is the Farmyard at River Bend, where they can get close to lambs, chicks, and other animals.

School-Age Kids: Make the visit to the house more interesting by asking for a treasure hunt guide at the entry or opting for the audio guide.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Try the rooftop tour for a great view of the grounds. Culinary-minded teens will enjoy the cooking demonstrations in the kitchen. They can bring home recipe cards to recreate the tasty masterpieces.

Planning Notes

• Take your time. Visiting Biltmore is a full-day activity. Don't rush through.
• Wear comfortable shoes. There is a lot of walking involved.
• Bring your wheels. You'll need a car to get to some parts of the estate.
• Check the website. Look for package deals. Tickets are often less expensive if ordered from the website.
• Avoid Saturdays. Tickets are less expensive Sunday through Friday, and perhaps more importantly, the crowds are smaller. Being stuck in a big crowd can make the visit unpleasant.
• Make a potty break. There are no public bathrooms inside the house, so make sure to take children to the restroom before entering. Although guides will help you skip crowds and get out if you need to, it can still take some time.
• Sipping time. Don't avoid the winery just because your kids are with you. They'll get free juice.
