The Health Adventure Description

This modest-sized, hands-on, health-and-science museum is scaled just right for young kids. They're drawn to PlaySpace, an enclosed area for kids under 6, where they'll stage puppet shows and race to the rescue of life-sized dolls using a real stretcher. In the main area, they piece together organs from the human body, spin themselves dizzy to learn about centrifugal force, and take quizzes on their nutrition knowledge.

Kid Tips

Babies: The brightly colored exhibits will grab babies' attention, and the PlaySpace is a safe area for crawlers and climbers.

Toddlers & Pre-K: An all-time favorite for this age group is the bubble machine. They may not understand much about surface tension, but they'll love being inside the bubble.

School-Age Kids: Older kids will be captivated by building spinning tops and experimenting to learn which design spins the best.

Pre-Teens & Teens: This isn't a destination for preteens and teens, but those accompanying younger siblings may get just as involved in the activities as their little brothers and sisters.

Planning Notes

  • Look around. Health Adventure is one of several museums in Pack Place. While younger kids will be happy here, older ones might enjoy the nearby Asheville Art Museum or Colburn Earth Science Museum (where they'll learn everything they want to know about gems -- but not in a particularly hands-on way. Nice gift shop for rock hounds, though!).
  • For the sweet tooth. Across the street is Sisters McMullen Bakery, where there's a cupcake to satisfy every sweet tooth. (Warning: the cupcakes are really sweet!)
  • Check the website. Traveling exhibits change several times a year.
