Charlotte Museum of History Description
This museum's collection of local artifacts gives a great sense of Charlotte's past, but kids are drawn more to the museum's "backyard." The American Freedom Bell, the largest bell at ground level in America, is a hit with kids, who love feeling its powerful vibrations with their hands. Wooded paths lead to the Hezekiah Alexander House, the oldest house in Mecklenburg County. Costumed docents provide a fascinating glimpse into eighteenth century life—kids love hearing about games and toys, but they are also squeamishly delighted to learn how hides were tanned with the animal's brains.
Kid Tips
Babies: The wooded trails behind the museum are stroller friendly.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Turn left as you walk in the front door to enter an activity room where kids can create artwork and try their hand at things like writing with a quill pen.
