University Place Description
Just a ten minute drive from Uptown, University Place provides a great home base when visiting Charlotte. Stroll around the lake in the evening and let your kids use up that last burst of energy before bedtime at the small playground. Rent a paddle boat and get oh-so-close to the fountain in the middle of the lake (just wait for the squeals of delight!). Choose from any number of restaurants: Italian, seafood, and a great sandwich shop with hand-scooped ice cream. Shop for everything from camera equipment to Birkenstocks to tents.
Kid Tips
Babies: The lake path (and the bridges that cross it) are stroller-friendly.
Toddlers & Pre-K: The ship-themed playground is just the right size for preschoolers.
Planning Notes
- Free summer concerts on Thursdays. Popular spots to listen are outside the Wine Vault and the ice cream shop (for obvious reasons). Concerts run from 5:30 to 8:30 in June and July. Look under "What's New" on the website for the schedule of concerts.
- Camera emergency. If you run out of space on your camera's memory card, bring it to Wolf Camera to transfer the images to a CD.
