Skyland Farm & Café Description

Interesting artwork, local products, and amazing views make it a good stop with baby in a frontpack carrier; farm animals will amuse toddlers (as will the sandbox, standing tractor, and child-sized game of "flower pot" checkers). Little hands could do much damage in the shop itself. Better that adults take turns peeking at the wares if little ones are in tow and leave them out on the deck for a gelato break.

Kid Tips

Babies: Lunch on the deck will work well with a settled or sleeping baby. The grassy garden area is a better bet for one who needs some crawl space. Strollers will be difficult to maneuver, particularly on the top floor. Leave it outside and opt for a carrier instead.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Your best bet is to use the caf‚ entrance and usher them either to a table on the deck or out into the grassy yard to play in the sandbox before saying hello to the chickens, sheep, and goats. (Feed is available from the cashier in the gift shop.) Keeping them out of the gift shop is probably best for all involved.

Pre-Teens & Teens: This is a good place for older kids to pick up a souvenir for friends back home. Locally made soaps or glass baubles come in a range of prices.

Planning Notes

  • Stay for lunch. The huge deck of this tiny café overlooks a labyrinth and a cut-your-own flower garden, and offers gorgeous views of Seneca Lake. It is also home to real food. Mom and Dad can enjoy chilled strawberry soup, Caesar shrimp salad, tuna apple wraps, and more while kids enjoy staples like grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly. The family who runs the café also owns Sorge's restaurant in town, so if you enjoy the lunch you can consider popping in for dinner there.
