Niagara's Fury Description

Not quite ready to let your child go over the Falls in a barrel? This interactive movie and ride lets kids experience the momentum and adrenaline rush of doing so without the threat of broken bones (or worse). Younger kids will fall in love with Chip, the preteen beaver star of the pre-ride movie ("He's so cute!") and will surely want to bring him home (stuffed versions are available in the gift shop). Kids won't realize they're learning the history of the Falls as they watch Chip slip and spin from the ice age to modern times -- they'll be having too much fun. Despite its name, the "Fury" is actually pretty tame, very family-friendly, and barrels of fun.

Kid Tips

Babies: Strollers are welcome inside the ride, but you may want to opt out after the film if you prefer that your little one not be jostled.

Toddlers & Pre-K: At times the lights go out, thunder flashes, rain falls, and the floor moves -- all things that may cause younger kids concern. Warn them ahead of time, and that none last more than a few seconds.

School-Age Kids: They'll love it! Everything from the cartoon character to the ride itself is tailor-made for this age group.

Pre-Teens & Teens: They might be underwhelmed. There's a lot of build-up for a ride that isn't that thrilling.

Planning Notes

  • It's a wet one. You're warned early on that you'll likely get wet, but insiders say that you can avoid the worst of it by keeping to the ends of the platform closest to the exit doors.
  • Gift shop ahead. Visitors exit through the gift shop and are immediately surrounded by Chip memorabilia. Most of it is reasonably priced, but if you're not in a buying mood, move through the shop swiftly.
  • Great views of the Falls upon exiting. Kids who might have to struggle for a vantage point among the crowds below can see easily from this third-floor lookout. If you skip the ride you can still catch the view for free.
