Those ubiquitous red double-decker buses you've seen plying the city streets since you arrived? They're not just for tired older folks: Gray Line, which operates the bus tours, turns out to be super family-friendly. Ride for a while with your pavement-weary kids, listen to the commentary as you roll past major landmarks, then hop off when you've all stored up more energy for sight-seeing. Choose from the Grand Tour, which covers many bases, or the Lower Manhattan or Upper Manhattan loops, among other options.

School-Age Kids: Gray Line also has a boat tour called Splash Tours, more youth-oriented than most cruises.
