Queens County Farm Description
The typical child's reaction to a goat nibbling feed out of his hands -- that combination of "ew!" and "cool!" -- is an experience in itself. At the 47-acre Queens County Farm Museum, feeding baby animals is high on kids' to-do list, but so is a (only slightly scary) wander through the Amazing Maize Maze (in fall). It's the only working farm in New York City, and proof that the city wasn't always dense with tall buildings.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Pick up some feed in the gift shop to let the little ones feed sheep and goats.
Planning Notes
- It's worth the trip. The farm is accessible by public transit from Manhattan, a trip that takes about an hour (possibly more depending on subway and bus connections). Take the E or F subway to the Union Turnpike station, then the Q46 bus to Little Neck Parkway (it's easier than it sounds!).
