Deep Hollow Ranch Description
Kids won't care that Deep Hollow Ranch is the oldest working cattle ranch in America. They'll be more impressed by the greeting party: Pedro and Frida, two adorable donkeys who sashay right by a transfixed child and, with a swish of their tail, elicit a squeal and a smile. Perch your 2- to 5-year-old atop a pony for a few laps around the corral. Kids 6 and up revel in guiding gentle geldings such as Cassidy and Splash for longer rides along hilly trails and onto Block Island Beach.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: If the prospect of a 30- to 90-minute trail ride is too scary, consider taking a lesson instead (6 and up only).
Planning Notes
- Dress like a cowboy. This means pants and enclosed shoes. (Light helmets in lieu of ten-gallon hats are provided.)
- Make a reservation. They're required; mornings are least crowded.
- Know your limits. Take note to avoid disappointment: 6- and 7-year-olds are only allowed on a 30-minute ride. You have to be at least 8 years old to go on a 60- or 90-minute ride.
- Bring cash. They don't accept credit cards. Also, there is a discount for four or more people.
