Town of Sag Harbor Description
The charming town of Sag Harbor was once a bustling whaling port. Now the tree-lined Main Street is a haven for old-fashioned treats the kids will love. Start at Long Wharf with giant ice cream waffle cones at Olaf's Ice Cream -- bubble gum and pink, yellow, and blue "Superman" flavors are in high demand -- and check out the docked boats. Walking inland, you'll find many stores to visit, including a five-and-ten variety store opened in 1922, complete with a 25-cent pony ride out front.

Kid Tips
Babies: Don't miss the Wharf Shop for lighthouse kits, dollhouses, and a Thomas train table.
School-Age Kids: On a windy day, nothing beats Kites of the Harbor. Choose from kites shaped like a Red Baron, T-Rex, pirate ship, and many more. They also have a well-edited selection of novelty gifts.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Allow time to linger at the Flying Point Surf & Sport store for skate and surf gear. The store snakes back through several rooms that are packed with everything needed to pass muster on the beach.
Planning Notes
- Arrive early. Parking on Main Street can be tight.
- Don't miss the Chamber of Commerce. It's located in a restored windmill on Long Wharf (right across from Olaf's).
- Rainy day? Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre has puppet playgroups on Mondays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. and on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. They also stage lots of shows in season.
