Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Description

Cascading water is only one sound you'll hear when walking into this labyrinth of rock formations. Echoing voices are the other. Once inside the maze of caves, the urge to call out "Hellooooo" is irresistible, and the sound of happy voices echos throughout. The lead-you-by-the-hand trails are admittedly on the kitschy side. But, it's a great introductory adventure and a fun place for families with little ones to safely poke around ultra-cool subterranean chambers. How fun? In one boy's words, "Amazing!"

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: A great spot for tots on a first hike, though you'll still want to hold a hand as stairs are quite steep.

School-Age Kids: They'll be fascinated with the caves, but if they've already been out enjoying the more authentic Adirondacks attractions, they might find this a little hokey.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Those willing to get wet and dirty might enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour. The small, private, three-hour tours, for ages 13 and older, pokes around areas off limits to the general public, requires an extra charge, and only runs in July and August.

Planning Notes

  • Sole support. Leave the flip-flops at home. Sturdy, rubber-soled shoes are required. The good news: If you left yours at home, you can rent a pair here for 50 cents.
  • Money saved. The somewhat pricey admission fee can be mitigated a little with your AAA card.
  • Heavy sigh. The short trail is less than a mile. But, resist the urge to run through. A few spots, like the Oyster Shell, are very serene. Make sure to stop and enjoy.
  • Extra fee.Several additional on-site attractions include panning for gold and a little climbing section. Some require a nominal extra charge.
  • Last tour. The place closes at 7 p.m., but you'll have to be here by 5 p.m. to enter.
