Palace of the Governors Description

Housed in the oldest building in New Mexico still in continuous use, this early 17th-century style adobe structure chronicles the history of the settlement of Santa Fe, and is worth seeing just for it's early Southwestern architecture alone. Kids who can't imagine life before the computer will be fascinated by the collection of early printing equipment. And from now until April 2008, there's a fanciful exhibition of retablos, the colorful tin wall shrines popular with Mexican families, on loan from the University of New Mexico.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: Interactive exhibition guides lead kids through the museum with treasure hunts and quizzes.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids studying various periods of American history will love the special events like Colonial Days and Mountain Man Rendezvous, featuring costumed volunteers acting out historical scenarios.
