The Rodeo de Santa Fe Description
If you time your visit for early summer, your kids can join in the crazy fun of Rodeo de Santa Fe, now more than 50 years old. This traditional old-time rodeo also features kids' events such as "mutton busting" (they get to ride a sheep) and a hilarious calf scramble. The parade is also a lot of fun, not to mention the real-life excitement of barrel racing, steer wrestling, and all the other good old rodeo stuff.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: There's a rodeo matinee on Saturdays for kids who can't stay up late enough for the evening events, which don't start til 7:30.
School-Age Kids: The rodeo queen and royalty contest is a must-see for girls.
Pre-Teens & Teens: A newly added carnival midway will compete with the rodeo for kids' attention.
Planning Notes
- The parade route is available online. This will come in very handy when searching for the perfect viewing location.
- Crowds are a factor. Gates open at 5 for evening events; try to get there early.
