Hot Air Balloon Ride Over the Rio Grande Gorge Description
These memorable trips actually depart from a launch pad near Albuquerque, so they're not technically a Santa Fe attraction. But the chance to drift over the Rio Grande Gorge in a balloon and catch the area's world-famous air currents is not something to be missed, so get up early and make the drive. Afterwards, kids take home a flight certificate and pin to show their friends; parents get champagne, and everyone gets breakfast. The official hot air balloon purveyors of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, held every year in October amidst beautiful fall foliage, Rainbow Ryders know what they're doing and offer a wide variety of trips for both the adventurous and those fearful of heights.

Planning Notes
- If you're not a morning person you need to be. Flights are in the early mornings, in order to catch the best winds.
- Reservations required. Must book at least four days ahead via phone or Web.
- Safety is a consideration with ballooning. Warn kids that pilots decide whether or not to fly based on weather and other flight decisions, so there's always a chance your flight will be cancelled.
