Tuckerton Seaport Description

Kids love the Tuckerton Seaport's 16 historic structures that represent various trades and crafts unique to the Barnegat Bay. Experienced hands demonstrate the craftsmanship that goes into everything from bird decoys to fishing nets to full-size boats. When you're done with the tours and demonstrations, take a boat ride down Tuckerton Creek to the Eyre Haven Folk Club (note: children under 3 not permitted on boat ride). There you can listen to music from a wide variety of artists. Time your visit right and you may be able to take one of the seaport's classes, leaving with a bird decoy of your own.

Kid Tips

Babies: The area is reasonably stroller-friendly, so bring the wheels.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The boat ride is only for kids age 3 and up.

School-Age Kids: Perfect for kids who love to see carving, boat-making, and rope work demonstrations. Those who can't sit still might not be as enthused.

Planning Notes

  • Restaurant on-site. Skeeter's Crazy Water Café caters to a wide variety of tastes, with steaks, chops, seafood, and pasta. Or pack your own picnic lunch.
  • Dress appropriately. Summer is hot. Spring and fall can be downright chilly. And, of course, wear comfortable shoes.
  • Check the schedule. The Seaport hosts a number of festivals, events, and shows throughout the year, which can get crowded. Be sure to check the website's calendar for specifics.
