Weather Discovery Center Description
This small museum houses numerous kid-centric interactive exhibits that take weather from sigh to sensational. Good luck getting your kids out of the replica of the original Mount Washington weather station, where the touch of a button lets you experience the chain-rattling, roof buffeting, 231-mile per hour wind recorded in 1934. Two 11-year-olds and a five-year-old were drawn to magnets that move water to replicate wind flow over Mount Washington, and a cannon drum that creates air pressure and moves tiles on a nearby wall target.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Everyone this age and up will be captivated by the 10-minute movie on wind, complete with real breezes.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Young adults will love the sailboat exhibit, where up to three kids work together to dock a miniature boat by changing the wind direction in a tank.
Planning Notes
- Across from the Eastern Slope Inn. You might find a parking spot on the street; if not,
- Souvenir time. The small museum shop has nifty weather-related toys and kites.
