Biking Along the Truckee River Description

This easy ride from Squaw Valley into Tahoe City, along the Truckee River, is one that kids as young as 6 or 7 can do. If you're not traveling with your own bikes, rent some from the Resort at Squaw Creek and then ride along the bike path to the Truckee River. It's mostly flat and is about ten miles there and back. You can always turn around when the kids poop out, but if you can make it into Tahoe City, lunch at the Bridgetender restaurant along the banks of the Truckee is worth the effort.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Use a bike trailer for kids this age.

School-Age Kids: Kids who can ride two-wheelers will do just fine on this ride. (If they get tired, you can always turn around).

Pre-Teens & Teens: A perfect family outing for older kids.

Planning Notes

  • Weekend visitors should reserve bikes ahead of time. There are also bike rental shops in the nearby Olympic Village and at the entrance to Squaw Valley (but parking can be an issue).
  • There's more. For details about other similar kid-friendly paths, go here for more information.
