Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park and Visitor Center Description
Have your trip to the Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park focus on one of its beautiful public beaches, Sand Harbor. Because it faces west, Sand Harbor stays warm and sunny all day. Head to the right side of the new Visitor Center to the smaller cove -- it's a bit more protected from the wind. The park's new Visitor Center offers some historical displays, and a shop with souvenirs, sundries, and fishing gear in case you decide to try your luck (kids under 12 don't need a fishing license in Nevada, but adults do).

Kid Tips
Babies: Find a shady spot and the gentle breeze will lull her to sleep.
School-Age Kids: They'll love swimming out to the rocks that dot the mini cove and then jumping off of them (be aware that there are some rocks in shallow water).
Pre-Teens & Teens: They'll love the beach's soft sand but may complain about the cool water, even in the height of summer.
Planning Notes
- Have lunch at the nearby Harbor House Bistro and Beach Goods. Opened in summer 2007, it's more than your standard beach shack -- the chef was trained at the renowned California Culinary Academy. The menu includes French toast and quiche, fish tacos, basic deli fare, ice cream, soda, beer and wine. Visit Harbor House or call (866) 469-6049 for hours.
- If you don't already have one, buy a Nevada fishing license. You can purchase one online here.
Just the Facts

What we loved:
The Gondola Rides
What we didn't love:
The Heat
We stayed at South Lake Tahoe where the Heavenly Gondola is located. Its a phenomenal enclosed gondola that is surrounded by windows. It takes you to the top of the mountain for great scenic views of the lake from the decks. The kids were thrilled and we were even able to hike around some as the ground was fairly flat around Adventure Peak. Theres a restaurant there that served good food at a decent price. We were even able to pick up souveniers at the gift shop. Down at the base, there are a lot of places to go but the best is a boat ride out on the crystal blue lake. We rented jet skis and had a blast! I wouldnt hesitate to go back here and spend more than the 4 days we did. It wasnt enough time. Read More
