Rafting and Floating in the Yellowstone River Description
"Rafting day" is a highlight of every stay at the ranch, with a guided float through class II rapids on the Yellowstone River. Kids have a blast "riding the bull" at the front of the boat as it rockets through medium-quick whitewater and rolling waves, with experienced guides making it an adventure that's fun but not scary. Although the rafting trips are optional, it's a great change of pace from riding the dusty trail and a thrilling family experience.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids need to be at least 6 years old and weigh 40 pounds to go on rafting trips.
Pre-Teens & Teens: This is a perfect outing for rebels and thrill-seekers. Kids can team up with their friends or ride the rapids with their family.
Planning Notes
- Leave the camera behind. Staff photographers are likely to capture an action shot or two for you, so don't risk losing your own camera overboard. If you absolutely must bring your own camera, make sure it's waterproof.
- Wear quick-dry clothing. Swimsuits, running shirts, and hiking shorts are good choices. Avoid wearing cotton -- once it's wet, it stays wet.
- Wear sneakers or secure sandals. Flip-flops and bare feet are not allowed.
- You'll get wet. Bring a towel and dry clothes to change into after the trip.
- More water fun. Rafting, kayak, and float trips are also available daily from May to September.
