Fishing in Big Creek Description
Kids who are new to fishing will enjoy quick success at the ranch's pond, which is well-stocked with rainbow trout. Fly-fishing instructors are available each afternoon to teach the basics or more advanced skills, or you can practice on your own any time the fancy strikes you. Fishing equipment is provided, so there's no need to bring your own unless you prefer to.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Stick to worm fishing in the pond. Smaller kids have a hard time keeping their footing near the moving water of Big Creek.
School-Age Kids: Older kids will have a great time learning to cast a line. Once they've mastered the basics at the pond, take them to the creek, where they're likely to spot wildlife such as elk, moose, and deer while fishing.
Planning Notes
- A bigger challenge. For families interested in more "big league" fishing, the ranch can arrange trips to the Yellowstone River or guide you to many other amazing waterways in Paradise Valley.
- Off-ranch fishing requires a license. The front desk can help you acquire one, or you can obtain one online in advance from Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.
- Mosquitoes love water. Don't forget to spray yourself and your kids.
- Remember sunscreen. The afternoon sun is intense in the high altitude, and even stronger when reflecting off the water.
