Big Creek Hike

Hiking
Big Creek Hike Description
Follow the sound of rushing water as you walk the narrow Big Creek Trail along the river, through the trees, and then onto a packed dirt road leading back to the ranch. Kids thrill in the search for elk, deer, and even hard-to-see black cows put out to pasture among the trees. Serious hikers will enjoy a strenuous sunrise hike to Sheep's Rock or many other moderate-to-difficult choices in the surrounding countryside, much of which is owned by the U.S. Forest Service and open to the public.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The easiest guided hikes are still about two miles long, so consider a more gentle, self-guided nature walk around the perimeter of the ranch or to the local trout pond.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The guided breakfast hike is an alternative way to get to the early-morning campfire. It's a moderate and fun hike, and kids who take it will still be back at the ranch in time to ride later that day.
Planning Notes
- Water bottles are provided. There's no need to bring your own.
- Don't forget the bug spray. Many hikes are scheduled at sunrise or in the evening to avoid the mid-day heat, but mosquitoes are most active at those times.
