Segway Experience's Tour of Kansas City Zoo Description

Take your visit to the expansive Kansas City Zoo to a whole new level with a guided tour on a Segway. After a brief practice session, kids can turn their two-wheeled, body movement-operated Segway, go up and down hills, and even on gravel or over bumps. Make the most of the experience and choose the two-hour tour of the entire zoo, which gives preteens and teens a personalized look at the zoo's massive Africa exhibit and the Australian Outback, where they just might run into the zoo's free-ranging kangaroos and peacocks.

Kid Tips

Pre-Teens & Teens: Questions are both welcome and encouraged on the tours. Also, don't be shy about asking to linger at exhibits that interest you.

Planning Notes

Age and weight requirements. Kids must be at least 12 years old and weigh 100 pounds in order to be able to operate the Segway. A parent must accompany children younger than 18.
Tours operated by Segway Experience, not the zoo. Tours must be booked in advance (at least 24 hours' notice is required) with Segway Experience (816-531-0600), which is solely responsible for this offering.
Prepay. Payment in full is required when booking tours, and does not include the cost of zoo admission.
No refunds. No exceptions.
Tips appreciated. It's customary to tip tour guides, so send your kids with extra cash.
Shorter tours available. If two hours is too long or too expensive, shorter tours of specific sections of the zoo can also be arranged.
Helmets provided. There's also room for a small water bottle, purse, or cell phone in the pouches at the front of the handlebars.
Bad weather plans. You'll be issued a certificate for a future tour if weather prohibits the tour.
Warm-weather activity. The tours are typically offered April 1 through Oct. 31.
Other Segway Experience tours available. Kids older than 16 can take the Urban Journey (featuring downtown Kansas City) or Plaza Art and Architecture tours.
