Nordic Ridge Gardens Description
A trip to the Upper Midwest just wouldn't be complete without sampling the old-fashioned fun of a produce farm. In early summer, pick strawberries (or just buy some and enjoy the farm). In the fall, take a "haunted" hayride, wander the elaborate corn maze, and pick out a pumpkin or some gourds to take home. During the winter, take a sleigh ride behind the farm's team of Belgian draft horses and warm up afterward with a cup of hot cocoa. The farm's crew of animals, including a miniature horse, goats, chickens, ducks, and other friends add even more kid appeal.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: There's a small playground and some open space where your child can burn off some steam if she gets restless.
School-Age Kids: The quirky, ever-changing scarecrow scenery will make this ride fun for kids.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids enjoy the challenge of a corn maze. You can choose the shorter ("cheating" allowed) route, or the longer maze for extra challenge.
Planning Notes
- Ghosts ahoy. The "haunted' hayride passes by some cleverly ghoulish scenes, but they're mostly amusing, not really scary. Still, a sensitive or very young child might need to be warned ahead of time.
- Dress warmly. It's easy to get cold while sitting still on the hayride, and the winter sleigh rides last an hour and a half -- probably too long for very young children.
