The Park at MOA Description

The largest indoor mall in the United States -- the Mall of America -- is home to a seven-acre amusement park boasting rides for kids of every age. The roller coasters and thrill rides are exciting enough for teens but still tame enough for some school-age kids (and grown-ups). Thrill-seeking tots as young as 3 or 4 will love the steep hills of Paul Bunyan's Log Chute (as long as they're with an adult), but there are calmer rides for the younger or more sensitive set. Even on busy days, the lines aren't too long, and you won't have to worry about wearing sunscreen or becoming dehydrated waiting in long lines -- you're indoors, after all. That said, this also makes a great indoor activity during the winter.

Kid Tips

Babies: Many of the "kiddie" rides are reserved for kids 36 inches and up.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The Frog Hopper goes 20 feet in the air, so your kids might prefer the Bloomington Express train ride (a calmer choice).

School-Age Kids: Kids this age love the Ghost Blasters ride, which takes them on a creepy ride through a haunted "mansion" -- and then lets them fight back by vaporizing ghouls and ghosts.

Pre-Teens & Teens: There are only five thrill rides (including the popular Pepsi Ripsaw Roller Coaster), so if your teens want to stay awhile, it's probably worth investing in a wristband.

Planning Notes

  • Hardhat alert: The Park at MOA is currently in the process of converting to Nickelodeon Universe, so expect some construction until Spring 2008; some rides may be temporarily closed.
