Brightly colored papier-mach‚ masks and huge-headed puppets make the original productions eye-popping, but don't expect mindless entertainment here: The productions have a message, sometimes political in nature. While the plays aren't quite as polished as some professional theaters, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre makes up for it with plenty of, well, heart -- and a commitment to its community.

School-Age Kids: If your child is easily scared of masks or strange-looking characters, you may want to sit near an exit (or considering skipping the show entirely) -- the enormous heads can overwhelm sensitive kids.
