Cycle the TART Trail Description
The Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trail is a paved, five-foot-wide path that runs for 10 miles along Grand Traverse Bay near downtown. You'll find families strolling, rollerblading, and cycling while they enjoy the waterfront and neighborhood views. Look for sailboats in the distance on the turquoise waters of the bay. The TART trail isn't a loop trail, so if you ride the full distance, be prepared to ride back to your starting point when finished.
Kid Tips
Babies: Bring or rent a bike trailer for very young children.
Planning Notes
- Need a bike? Local cycle shop Brick Wheels (located at 736 E. 8th St.; 947-4274) rents standard bikes, tandem bikes, kids' bikes, bike trailers, and helmets.
- Check the map. Though the trail is relatively flat, review the trail map to learn where it crosses busy intersections. Notes about the trail are available on the Traverse Trails website (http://www.traversetrails.org/docs/trailmap-tart.pdf).
