Old Mission Peninsula Description
Take a lovely scenic drive to the tip of Old Mission Peninsula to stand on the 45th parallel (the halfway mark between the North Pole and the Equator) at the Old Mission Lighthouse. From there, walk out to the waterfront where the expansive view will make you feel like you're at the edge of the world. Along the way to Lighthouse Park, stop at the Old Mission General Store for ice cream or cherry saltwater taffy; visit Haserot Beach, which has silky, soft sand and a playground; or sample local in-season produce at farm stands along the main highway.
Kid Tips
Babies: A frontpack will work best for exploring the area.
Planning Notes
- Dress for sand, wind, and water. It can get quite windy at Lighthouse Park beach. The sand is mud-like, so don't wear anything you wouldn't want sinking into wet sand an inch or two.
- Parking is free. There is no charge for parking at the lighthouse and Haserot Beach.
