Front Street Shopping Excursion Description
A stroll along Front Street takes you past a variety of interesting, independently-owned shops, featuring everything from jewelry and antiques to toys and books. Check out Toy Harbor and Grand Bay Kite Co. for fun stuff to bring to the beach, or Horizon Books, one of the best of the independents. For a sweet treat, you can't miss Kilwin's Fudge, a famous favorite. Top off your trip with lunch at the Grand Traverse Pie Company and a short stop to say hi to the firefighters at the fire station across the street.
Kid Tips
Babies: Check out Green Island at Front & Union streets for eco-friendly baby products.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids might get restless shopping for a long while, but fortunately they'll be engaged by kid-friendly stores, such as the kite shop, book store, and fudge shop.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age will find lots to love downtown, including Horizon Books and Davidson's Rock Shop, where they can pick up polished Petoskey Stones.
Planning Notes
- Bring quarters. There's ample on-street parking right on Front Street (most meters allow parking for 30 minutes to 2 hours) and also a parking deck between Boardman and Park streets.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes. There are many unique stores to browse, so expect to be on your feet a long time.
